TMA Annual Medical Meeting - Bhutan 2008
Hi to those who could not make it to Bhutan 2008 - here is a summary from one of our members .
There was a great conference program and very positive communication between the delegates and partners.
Some highlights (in opinion) of the presentations were:
- Richard Dawood (form London) talking about his work in preparing and supporting journalists to world trouble zones.
- Dr Kenafake's eye opening journey to the travel medicine experience as shown by the complementary practitioner from the eyes of a sceptic.
- Dr Helen Bennet's research and insights into an approach to the fearful flyer and her husband
- Dr Nathan Elmes with his work as army doctor and now researcher with Army malaria research unit.
- Dr Savita shared some cautionary tales of travellers without insurance.
- Dr Normal Hohl encourages us to keep flu and pandemic planning front of mind.
- An outstanding insight into how nurses, if properly trained, can manage a travel clinic by Justine Jackson - (nurse in Brisbane).
- Her colleague Christina Baker showed us some insights to her "other life" as a resident in Vanuatu.
- My wife, Lisa, and I both enjoyed hearing Dr Chistine Aus and her descriptions of the challenges, joys and planning involved with taking children on an overseas posting.
- There were other presentations also on diarrhoea; a doctor as a sentinal chook for a Chikunya outbreak in the Seychelles; and a study experience in PNG , and India from a local ID physician's point of view - all of which were interesting and entertaining.

A special thanks again goes to Deborah for her tremendous efforts in arranging the conference and also with the support of the travel agents (MTA - Jame and Nicola Irving).
